  DESCRIPTION

  This book entitled The Big Thrill: Vantage Point the fifth book of the series The Big Thrill. It is about how Aidan was killed at his hotel room, and the point of views of his children and lover.

  It starts at the hospital where Aidan Shaw was rushed after being shot. He was merely covered by his own blood when the waiter found him at his room. His children were left in the table waiting for him and his lover, Phoebe, who went to the comfort room for too long.

  Aidan's children were sitting and fighting about Aidan's new lover, Phoebe. The discussion was about the new found love of Aidan. Sarah and Louis, the twin daughters of Aidan, doesn't approve to their relationship. Marcus, Aidan's eldest and only son, was the one defending Phoebe and Aidan.

  After a long time, Phoebe came back their table. They all waited for Aidan to come back as well, but unfortunately, the manager came to talk to them. He said Aidan's body was found in their room; he was shot in the chest and now being rushed to the hospital.

  Who did it? Could it be…? Phoebe?

  1 SEEING YOU DIE

  Marcus and his sisters immediately rushed to the hospital after knowing their father was shot in the chest. Phoebe, who was also there when it happened, joined them praying for Aidan's miraculous recovery.

  They all stand there watching the doctor remove the bullet in his chest inside the room. There was a glass divider where they can stay and watch the patient. This is where they stayed. When the doctor already took the bullet, they were all relieved. But as the doctor continued stitching the heart of their father, they begin to start crying.

  Phoebe was also there. She cried with Aidan's children while watching the doctor stitch him. All of a sudden, the nurse started panicking, and Aidan's heartbeat stopped. The doctor sets aside what he was doing and focuses to Aidan's heart monitor for a while.

  A minute passes and still no answer from Aidan's body. The doctor signaled the nurse to prepare the defibrillator. The doctor tried pumping his chest to recover the heart. Unfortunately, Aidan's heart muscles started feeling numb, which causes it to slow down.

  The brief electric shock, then was readjusted to a higher rate, but still no sign of a heartbeat. The defibrillator failed to restore Aidan's heartbeat, and so the doctor knew Aidan was dead.

  The twins almost lost their head when they saw the doctor asking the nurse to record time of death. Their older brother was also there witnessing the tragic scenario.

  They were all moved. They all felt deafness, they all felt numb. They couldn't believe their father died right in front of their eyes. But they were just standing, and they did nothing to stop everything.

  Soon, their Uncle Kevin came together with his wife. Phoebe went outside to get some air. She also didn't want to see Aidan suffered like that. It was indeed very painful.

  "Hi, Mr. Shaw. I am detective Smith. I'm sorry about what happened. The hotel called us to investigate what happened; some of my men were at your hotel room right now searching for evidences. I also came there, but I figured it would be best for me to ask some questions regarding this scenario. I know this is not a good time, but I want you to know I am at your side, and if you are ready to answer my questions, just call me. I am in charge of the case.", Detective Smith gave him his card.

  "No, detective. We're ready to answer the questions.", Marcus said, holding the hands of his sisters. "I appreciate your help. Please, do whatever it takes to give justice to my father.", he added.

  "I just want to ask where were you the time this happened?", the detective asked all of them.

  "We were at the restaurant. We were supposed to have a sumptuous dinner at the restaurant at Hotel Pullman Paris Montparnasse. He suggested that we all go to our hotel room so we could eat there while watching the Eiffel Tower. He told us that he will just talk to the chef and the manager to take the food upstairs.", Marcus explained.

  "We didn't have any idea he went to our hotel room. He didn't mention going there. We were all surprised when they told us his body was shot and covered with blood.", Sarah said in unison.

  "And you guys were all together when it happened?", the detective asked once more.

  "Yes, we were talking at our table, waiting for him and Phoebe.", Marcus answered honestly.

  "I see. So there's someone with you.", detective elaborated.

  "Yes. Phoebe was with us, but she was gone for about an hour.", Vanessa replied.

  "Oh my God!!!", Sarah cried after realizing Phoebe was gone for too long.

  While panicking, all of them cup their faces. Phoebe came back with her tears going. All of them looked at her with such disgrace.

  "You!!! You killed him!!!", Sarah yelled at her.

  2 WHAT HAPPENED ACCORDING TO MARCUS

  (The day before the dinner)

  Aidan woke up too early today. He immediately rushed to the bathroom to take a warm bath, and then went straight to his closet to dress up.

  "Hi, dad. Good morning!", Marcus greeted his dad; he's still holding his mug of coffee in his right hand, "Wow, you're too dressed for today.", he teased him.

  "Thank you, son. I'm glad you noticed. I'm taking Phoebe to a nice restaurant to have a lovely breakfast. Don't mention this to your sisters, okay?", Aidan asked him.

  "Sure, dad. Hey, I forgot to tell you, the other day, they were asking me some questions. I think they are starting to notice it, dad.", Marcus told him.

  "Really? What did they tell you? What did you say?", Aidan stopped from what he's doing.

  "Nothing really that alarming. They were just concern about you, what are you doing, that you should go see the tour with them, and you're going in going out. I mean, dad, it's really getting suspicious.", Marcus tried warning him.

  "Oh, are they asking if I'm seeing anyone special?", Aidan asked and started to feel nervous.

  "Yes. In fact, they did, dad.", Marcus fidgeted.

  "No.. What did you tell them? Please don't tell me you told them about Phoebe, Marc.", Aidan started cupping his face.

  "What?! No, no, dad. Don't worry. I didn't, okay? But I did asked them about some "what ifs", if you are wondering.", Marcus replied immediately.

  "What are your what ifs?", Aidan made a sigh of relief. Now that Marcus have told him he said absolutely nothing about Phoebe, he felt relieved.

  "Like, what if he's really seeing som
eone new?", Marcus chuckled.

  "Oh God.. No.. What did they tell you?", Aidan asked after a long sigh.

  "They said they're 'okay' with it dad. I think they are in good shape to know. I just couldn't really grasp if they are ready to know that the special someone is a Parisian.", he told his father.

  "I know, I know. This is why we can't tell them. You hear me, Marc?", Aidan asked him a big favor.

  "Alright dad. But as for me, I think I'm done thinking about the next big thing, you know what I mean. It's me, your son, Marcus. You can trust me about anything. So, dad, tell me, is this getting serious? Because you're starting to make me nervous.", Marcus asked.

  "Well, I can tell you it's getting pretty serious.", Aidan told his son.

  "Really? Is it really starting to heat up? I mean, don't take this the wrong way dad, but you only have been dating for 3 weeks now.", he said.

  "I told her I'm gonna leave New York and move here.", Aidan told him with so much hesitation. He knows Marcus will be shocked.. and hurt, all at the same time.

  "What?! Dad? You can't be serious. You only just met her.", Marcus told him as his jaw dropped upon hearing his father say those words.

  "I know this is going to be your reaction. But son, I really love this woman. She's different, but somehow she reminds me of your mother. They have great commonality, if you ask me.", he told his son.

  "Are you sure about this, dad? Have you thought about this really carefully? I mean, it's a big move. It's a big decision. Our business is based in New York. It's gonna be hard for you to manage everything while you're here.", Marcus asked his father giving him a shocked, big eyes.

  "Yes, I thought about it, Marc. Probably about a thousand times. Son, you know how much I love you and your sisters; I can't even utter the words 'goodbye' to the three of you. But you see, this woman is the one who changed me. She pulled me out of my misery. And she loves me so dearly. This is why I'm staying.", Aidan's explanation to Marcus.

  "Dad, there's gotta be a better way. We can still go through all of this. We can still seek for other options. Come one, you can't leave us.", Marcus begged.

  "Phoebe is a performer. I don't think she can live in New York for us. Besides, I'm tired of New York. I need a new place. Every time I'm going out, I feel like it's not the same anymore. It reminds me of your mother in such a bad way.", Aidan told him. Finally, he can be honest and open about his feelings.

  "What about us? The business?", Marcus asked him.

  "You and your sisters are all in the right age. I'm sure all of you thought about living independently, but because of my case, you declined the idea. I think now is the time for me to let go. Live your life, and just enjoy. I will be fine. I want you all to experience the feeling of being independent. Also, I am very much confident to say that the business will be fine with you. I am a hundred percent sure. And I know you won't neglect your sisters; you did such a great job being their brother.", Aidan smiled at him. He can see tears in his dark brown eyes. Marcus was just left speechless, "Can I count on you, son?", Aidan asked.

  Despite Marcus inability to accept his father's decision, he just tried understanding him. So, "Of course, dad!", was all he can utter.

  "Great. Because tomorrow, we are all having a dinner! I'm going to introduce her to all of you.", Aidan dropped the big news. Marcus just smiled, and hugged his father.

  3 WHAT HAPPENED ACCORDING TO THE TWINS

  (During the dinner)

  Aidan went to the kitchen to thank the chef and to ask the manager if they can bring all the food upstairs, where they can watch the Eiffel Tower in their hotel room. Phoebe was also with him, but she decided to go in the ladies' room.

  Marcus was left at the table together with the twins. Sarah and Vanessa have been very mad at Marcus for not telling them about their father's new relationship; which is with Phoebe.

  "I can't believe you hid this to us! How could you?", Sarah yelled the minute she sense their father and his girlfriend were far away to hear them.

  "You knew this all along, why haven't you mentioned anything to us? How dare you? You promised mom to be always at our side!", Vanessa also expressed her anger.

  "Okay, will you two calm down? Dad told me everything. I was completely aware the whole time. What I don't understand is your reaction! I asked the two of you, what will you feel if ever this happened? You said it was 'okay'. Besides, we've been waiting for this to happen! We have set dad with so many women in New York; nothing happened. Now, here comes Phoebe. We should welcome her with a warm smile not a harsh attitude.", he reminded the twins.

  "It's okay if she is not a Parisian!!", Sarah responded.

  "What's the point? Our goal is to find him a woman just so he can feel loved again.", Marcus continued defending Phoebe.

  "Where do you think dad live? In New York? No. Of course not; he will leave us because there's a new woman in his life!", Sarah told him.

  "Sarah is right, Marcus. The woman is a performer. I don't think she will sacrifice her career and life over dad.", Vanessa continued hammering Marcus.

  "She's gonna steal dad from us.", Sarah said in unison.

  "Okay.. I think you girls are over reacting. But point taken, let's say that is where all this is going, but so what? Dad has been suffering for 8 years already. If anyone deserves to be happy, I think it's him. Besides, we can visit here for him, or he can visit us there. Also, you have to accept the fact that the two of you are both young adults now.", Marcus explained, "You guys should be happy for dad. You both should support him. Think about it, have you seen him this happy before, since mom died?", he added.

  "Marcus, we can't trust that girl.", Vanessa made a strong point from her stance.

  "And why not??", he yelled.

  "Are you kidding me, Marcus? Haven't you seen the woman? Everything about her screams GOLD DIGGER.", Sarah said in an irritating tone.

  "I don't believe this. You girls are being too judgmental.", Marcus looked away.

  "I love dad. I just don't want him to get hurt, be abused, or be fooled by any woman.", Sarah said while crying.

  "We have to trust dad. We have to. I know this is hard for both of you, this is why we hid it. We felt that you guys are not yet prepared for this; but you know, here's what I can tell you, dad is an eligible and smart man. If he managed to make our business successful, and by that I mean really successful, he will surely notice if a woman is trying to milk our money.", he explained, "Vanessa, I expected a lot from you.", he added.

  Silence was deeply felt after Marcus' sentiments. He really supports his dad about this relationship. He was just tired seeing his father so lonely. The girls don't see him that often, he is the one noticing everything because they work together.

  Aidan lost his wife 8 years ago. Her name was Amelie. They have been married for a very long time, and it took Aidan 8 years just to believe in love again. Now, Phoebe comes in the picture. The least they could do is thank her for giving back their old dad. The happy, energetic, and hopeful dad they know.

  But there were her sisters, acting so hard on Phoebe. Marcus just couldn't find their excuse so acceptable. They have been eyeing for him to find the perfect woman, and now, they are refusing their answered prayer?

  This is the first time in a long time, they saw Aidan smiling again. They never saw him this happy before, ever since their mother died. Marcus can't just accept his sisters' reason.

  After a few minutes, Vanessa and Sarah thought about what Marcus said. Both of them were not ready for this, but both of them also wants the best for their father.

  "Alright, you win. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get to know Phoebe. I just don't want dad to move here, you know. I can't give him up just yet to Phoebe.", Vanessa told the two of them. Marcus just gave them the 'thank you' look for believing in him.

  "I can't believe you're leaving me here.", Sarah rolled her eyes to her sister.

  "Come one, Marcus has a point. As much as I hate to say it, he has a point.", Vanessa replied t
o Sarah.

  "Fine. I'll try to open up to her as well.", Sarah said, "but this doesn't mean I'm already supporting dad's decision on staying here.", she confirmed.

  After an hour, Phoebe came back the table. It took her a while, but the three didn't retaliate asking where she's been. Phoebe just kept quiet, and so are Marcus, Sarah and Vanessa.

  "Excuse me, Sir Marcus.", the manager of the restaurant came in their table.

  "Yes, we're still waiting for our father to come back.", Marcus replied.

  "I know, Sir. But Mr. Shaw talked to our staff to bring the food upstairs because you are planning to eat in your room instead, to see the Eiffel Tower. He told us he still needs to get the check in his room, but he never came back.. We checked the room and we found Mr. Shaw… in the floor. He was shot. We already called the ambulance and…"

  All of them stood upon hearing what he said. The girls even cried and Marcus was paralyzed for quite some time. They didn't see it coming.. And I believe they were all unprepared.

  4 WHAT HAPPENED ACCORDING TO PHOEBE

  (During the dinner)

  Phoebe and Aidan arrived at the restaurant a little bit late. She was having hesitations meeting his children tonight so they took so long in preparing for everything; Phoebe took an hour and a half trying to pick a dress, it was so unusual of her.

  Aidan tried calming her down. He told her that his children can be tough sometimes, but he can assure her that they will like her. Because they love him, and if they want to see him happy, this will all work.

  When they reached the restaurant, Aidan's children were already sitting and waiting for them. Aidan called the manager to inform them they will be late for the dinner, so they must know by now that their father will bring someone.

  Phoebe can already see the three of them in the entrance. The two girls, who are twins, looked a little different. Phoebe just continued walking, holding Aidan's hand.

  The twins looked really great. They are wearing Burberry jacket; Sarah is rocking a carnation top while her twin sister is wearing a white floral dress. On their left is Marcus, he is with his tux.
